1-UP is a Catholic leadership program for young men in high school. It complements the development of its participants, helping them to become good students and virtuous leaders, giving them a competitive advantage in their personal and academic lives.
1-UP takes place every Saturday from September to April and is hosted at Ernescliff College, a student residence on the University of Toronto campus. The Christian orientation of the activities at Ernescliff is entrusted to Opus Dei, an institution of the Catholic Church.
1-UP’s mission is to prepare young men to become responsible, mature, and principled leaders, dedicated to the service of their families, friends, and communities.
1-UP is divided into two seminars: The Big Picture Seminar (for grades 9 and 10) and Filling the Gaps (for grades 11 and 12). Participants meet at Ernescliff every Saturday from September to April. These meetings include a monthly interactive session specially geared to each seminar and complimentary activities on off-weeks.
At the heart of 1-UP is one-on-one mentoring. Each participant is paired with a carefully-chosen university student or young professional, who helps them apply the program material to their everyday lives and shares academic and personal advice.
